David Makita
Former K-12 Director of Talent — helping schools hire faster, compete for great teachers, and keep the ones they already have.
About
David Makita spent a decade in K-12 schools — as a teacher, grade-level chair, and assistant principal at KIPP Delta in Helena, Arkansas, then as a Dean of Students and Teacher Leader in Memphis, before becoming Director of Talent for Memphis Scholars, a three-school charter network. There he ran recruitment and hiring across the network, and when COVID upended staffing, he extended that work to source and screen teachers for roughly 40 schools across the Memphis metro. That experience is the core of his consulting: the people side of school improvement — how schools hire, who they keep, and the systems underneath both. He helps school and network leaders build faster, more competitive hiring pipelines, hold onto their strongest staff, and stand up the talent operations that make both repeatable. He works with schools nationwide remotely, and on-site across Western Massachusetts and Upstate New York.
