As Head of Schools for KIPP New Jersey, I inherited the network's least stable high schools during a leadership transition. Rather than pushing harder on the same coaching model, I built a dedicated development cohort for assistant principals, targeting a specific gap in instructional leadership one level down from where everyone was looking. Suspensions dropped by 50%, attendance rose from 78% to 89%, and chronic absenteeism fell from 70% to 51%.

As Founding Principal, I opened the first elementary charter school in Mississippi's history. It went on to become the highest-performing charter school the state has seen, with 91% staff retention in a sector known for the opposite. As Director of Schools for a three-school portfolio, I drove parent engagement from 21% to 79% and literacy proficiency from 24% to 58%.

When a result persists no matter who's in the role, it's almost never that people aren't trying hard enough. It's that something in the organization's design is reliably producing that result. My work is finding that design problem and building something better in its place.
